Self-guided visits allow you to design your groups’ Cheekwood experience. Groups can explore the collections, exhibitions, and gardens at their own pace. To make the most of your self-guided visit, take advantage of the many gallery guides and campus maps available at Visitor Services.
INSIDER'S VIEW TOUR
Discover Cheekwood’s history, collections, and current exhibitions through this introductory tour. Listen as our expert museum docents tell the intriguing story of the Cheek family and estate and introduce your group to Cheekwood’s wide array of art collections and exhibitions. This tour provides an excellent overview for the first-time visitor.
The history of Cheekwood is interwoven with the growth of Nashville, the Maxwell House coffee brand and the Cheeks, one of the city’s early entrepreneurial families. Discover Cheekwood through an in-depth history of the Cheek family and the historic significance of the 1930s era Cheek Estate.
COLLECTION EXPLORATION TOUR
From paintings and prints to sculptures and decorative arts, Cheekwood’s art collection includes more than 7000 objects. Enjoy an in-depth and engaging tour of one of the many fine art collections on display in the Museum of Art.
TEMPORARY EXHIBITION TOUR
There is always something new to see at Cheekwood! In addition to our permanent collections, Cheekwood hosts world-class art exhibitions throughout the year. Tour the special exhibition on display in the Museum of Art, Courtyard Gallery, or Temporary Contemporary Gallery with a knowledgeable docent.
GARDEN REFLECTIONS TOUR
Enjoy an educational walking tour of Cheekwood’s gardens and grounds. Led by an expert garden guide, participants will explore the botanical collections and design elements in gardens such as the abundant Robertson Ellis Color Garden, the elegant Japanese Garden, the charming Cora Howe Wildflower Garden, and the stunning Wills Perennial Garden…just to name a few!
THE CARELL WOODLAND SCULPTURE TRAIL
The Carell Woodland Sculpture Train is a unique attraction among American art museums – a place where contemporary sculpture by internationally recognized artists is integrated into reclaimed woodland. Interwoven through the forest of the Cheek estate, the mile-long sculpture trail departs from the formal museum context to display fine art in a natural setting. Explore this unique synthesis of art and nature with your group!

Payment in full is due one week prior to your scheduled visit.

• In order to take advantage of group rates, advance reservations are required for both guided and self guided visits. Call the Education Department anytime Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to schedule your visit.
• When making your reservation, please specify if you would like a guided tour. Guided tours are subject to availability and must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.
• When calling or emailing to schedule your tour, please include the following:
- the tour of your choice
- two to three potential dates and times for your visit
- the number of people in your group
- contact information for the group leader; including phone number & email address
- information about any special needs
• As date, time, and other details of your request may have to be adjusted, please do not assume a tour is booked until you receive a confirmation.
Shortly after you schedule your visit, you will receive an email including a tour confirmation form, Cheekwood map, museum and garden etiquette, and parking information. Please review this information carefully and notify Cheekwood immediately if you need to make any changes or cancellations.
Cheekwood cannot guarantee a guided tour for groups that arrive more than 30 minutes after their scheduled tour time. However, if you are delayed, we will try to accommodate your group with a self-guided tour.
