*NEW* ART & MOVEMENT - Part of the Let’s Move Initiative, this unique class combines studio art and physical activities. Campers will learn about the influences of movement, such as dance and yoga, on visual art. This camp will involve time outdoors, weather permitting, exploring Cheekwood’s gardens and exhibitions such as Steve Tobin: Southern Roots and International Playhouses, while making their own artworks in the studio and engaging in physical activity for approximately 45 minutes each day.

BUGS & BLOOMS - In this all-time favorite class, campers will explore Cheekwood’s gardens to find artistic inspiration and venture into the studio to make their own crafts and creatures. Campers will enjoy learning about various insects, plants and bugs in the gardens, before creating beautiful artwork. This class combines time outdoors, weather permitting, in addition to time in the studio. Please Note: This is an art camp and campers will not handle any insects.

CRITTER CREATIONS - Enjoy learning about critters in your own neighborhood and across the globe. Some projects will be inspired by our ecosystem, while others may take camper imaginations deep into the jungle and ocean. Create your own animal mash-ups, habitats and critters with painting, drawing and 3-D design.

GARDEN SPROUTS - Time to play in the dirt! In this interactive introduction to the garden, campers will discover soil, seeds, the plant life cycle and the many wonders of the natural world. Through hands-on activities and greenhouse tours, campers will create garden art, conduct science experiments and cultivate a love of nature and gardening. Campers will spend time outdoors, weather permitting, in addition to time in the classroom.

INTERNATIONAL ART ADVENTURES - Take a trip around the world in this exciting class!  From Cheekwood’s Japanese Garden to our summer International Playhouses exhibition, campers will expand their knowledge of different cultures & artists while creating works of art and learning basic foreign language vocabulary. Enjoy a wide variety of art making with unique materials.

MIGHTY MASTERS
- Campers will learn about a variety of artists and art forms, from Van Gogh and Picasso to Warhol and Chihuly, both in the classroom and by visiting Cheekwood’s exhibitions, such as Steve Tobin: Southern Roots. Children will get their hands dirty with paint, collage, sculpture & more.

MIXED MEDIA MADNESS - Are pencils, paper, and paint the only materials used to create great pieces of art?  No way!  In this camp, children will create art using many different art ‘ingredients.’ Campers will explore a variety of materials and learn new methods and techniques for using everyday objects. No material is off limits.

PAINTING POSSIBILITIES - Is your camper itching to get messy and have some fun? This class explores tempra, watercolor and acrylic paint in a variety of ways. While learning the basics of primary and secondary colors, campers will be encouraged to control their brushwork, mix colors, and have fun! Campers will learn about other artists and discover unique ways to apply paint on different surfaces.

PAINT & SCULPT - Explore the exciting world of 3D art in this fun class. Campers will do it all with painting, drawing, and sculpting inspired Steve Tobin’s works in the Botanical Gardens and Museum of Art. Campers will also enjoy seeing different sculptures on Cheekwood’s Sculpture Trail and learning about other famous artists.

*NEW* SENSATIONAL STRUCTURES - Designed for young campers who love to build, this new class will introduce form and shape while using Cheekwood’s historic residence and our International Playhouses exhibition as inspiration. Campers will use a variety of media to create their own structures.

SUMMER SAMPLER - Over the course of a week, campers will discover a variety of new materials and an exciting assortment of projects.  Campers will explore painting, drawing, clay and more.  If your child wants to experience the wide world of arts and crafts, this is the class for you!  No two sampler classes are alike
