October 2 Painterly Pumpkins

Draw inspiration from Cheekwood’s pumpkin patch before stopping by the studio. We will be finger painting, cutting and gluing to create our own unique painterly pumpkins!

October 9 BLUEgrass in the Garden

Today we focus on another art form that directly inspires visual art…MUSIC! Stop by the studio to create your own melodic masterpiece. Join us every Saturday, September 22nd - October 20th, for live bluegrass in the Herb Garden during Cheekwood Harvest!

October 16 TRAINS!

Join us as we explore the TRAINS: Tennessee in ‘G’ exhibition near the Howe Garden and Frist Learning Center. Create your own train-inspired masterpiece in the studio.

October 23 Silly Skulls

In honor of All Saints Day and another great El Dia de los Muertos festival at Cheekwood, drop by the studios to create your own silly skull!

October 30 GOBLINS in the GARDEN

Scare up your favorite silly or spooky costume and join us for a ghoulish good time at the 6th annual Goblins in the Garden. We’ll be trick-or-treating our way through the gardens at 10:30am from Botanic Hall’s Massey Auditorium, as well as enjoying frighteningly fun entertainment and crafts. Count on spooky surprises and special treats. We’ll see you here on October 30th from 10:00am – 12:00pm for a howling good time!

The history of gardening in middle Tennessee is both rich and abundant. Join us as Justin Stelter, local gardener and expert on historic gardens, leads us on a journey through the history of three great middle Tennessee gardens: The Hermitage, an early American four-square garden; Carnton Plantation, a mid-19th century vegetable and ornamental garden and Cheekwood, a great Country Place Era garden.

October 6 Tree Climbing Demonstrations

11:00 am AND 1:00 pm
Watch first-hand how arborists do their job with passion and purpose as they skillfully and safely maneuver in a tree while performing tree care tasks. Following the tree climbing demonstration, an ISA certified arborist will do a short presentation about the tools and tricks of the trade.

October 13 TACA Day – Craft and hands-on demonstrations

11am-1pm, Frist Learning Center Courtyard
Watch as master artists and craftsmen from the Tennessee Association of Craft Artists demonstrate how to transform items like stone, wood, and clay into beautiful, functional pieces of art. Stay to see them exercise their carving skills with pumpkins!

October 16 Lecture and Cookbook Signing with Alex Hitz, author of “My Beverly Hills Kitchen: Classic Southern Cooking with a French Twist”

Alex Hitz’s cookbook was released on October 2 and he appeared on the Today Show on October 5.

October 20 Birds of Prey Show: Demonstration and “Fly By” by S.O.A.R. (Save Our American Raptors)

12:00pm, Massey Auditorium
S.O.A.R. (Save Our American Raptors) will help visitors discover the South’s own birds of prey and promote environmental awareness (and possibly thrill the bejeebers out of the audience) by combining music, video, and oh yes, live birds of prey which will fly right over the audience, giving a whole new meaning to the phrase “fly by”. This incredible experience is suitable for all ages and will definitely inspire a deeper connection to wildlife and the natural world.

October 27 El Dia de los Muertos
Come celebrate our 13th annual El Día de los Muertos festival. In recognition of this Latin American holiday, Cheekwood will bring the traditions of Mexico to Nashville. We’ll celebrate with lively music and dance, vibrant art activities and authentic Mexican food. Learn about the culture of our Latin American neighbors as you explore the beautiful altar displays, shop in the bustling Mexican marketplace, and enjoy the fine cuisine from local bakeries and restaurants.
