Join The Chestnut Group for a closer look at the basics of plein air painting! Through a variety of painting demonstrations, participants will learn essential tips and tricks for painting en plein air, from selecting the right equipment and tools to creating composition.
Painting with oils in the Plein Air tradition of the Impressionist, Karen Philpott will demonstrate the outdoor set up, how she selects her scene and the creative process of painting outdoors. Karen is an award winning landscape artist from Middle Tennessee and current President of The Chestnut Group, Plein Air Painters for the Land.
Todd Saal, also a member of The Chestnut Group, will demonstrate the unique challenges of painting Plein Air, Alla Prima with watercolor. He will convey his choice of minimal gear, allowing him to interpret a subject into a painting wherever he goes. Todd is native New Yorker and award winning watercolor artist and mentor enjoying living a creative life in Nashville, Tennessee.
Capacity is limited to 15 participants to allow for social distancing. Please note cloth face coverings are required in outdoor areas except when maintaining a physical distance of at least 6’ from other visitors. Advanced registration is required.
