November 27 2015 – January 31
Author Deborah Solomon, in her 2013 biography of artist Norman Rockwell, stated “…the emergence of Pop Art and Photorealism in the ‘70s made possible a new surge of critical appreciation for Rockwell’s art. Who knew that Andy Warhol bought two of his pictures and that Willem de Kooning professed admiration for his designs and textures?”
In contrast to the traditional work featured in Norman Rockwell’s Home for the Holidays, concurrently on view in the Museum of Art, Cheekwood will present an exciting exhibition highlighting selected works of Pop Art from our permanent collection. Cheekwood POP will showcase the bold colors, graphic visuals and big names associated with the Pop Art movement. Artists included in this exhibition are Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney, Robert Indiana, Claes Oldenburg and many more.
