The Martin Shallenberger Artist-in-Residence program is a unique resource at Cheekwood with its museum and gardens.  The setting enables the artists to be inspired by art and nature as well as with the ability to create paintings, sculpture, and/or installations within the Museum galleries or out within nature.  The residency provides living arrangements and a stipend for the artist while in Nashville.

Mr. Martin Shallenberger’s connection with Cheekwood started in 1971 when he exhibited 40 paintings, providing visitors with a glimpse into his life and travels around the globe including New York, Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne. His paintings captured the sites he visited and the time he spent abroad. The Artist-in-Residence program is made possible through the generous support of the Shallenberger family.
