Call for Art: The Great Spring Art Hop - Cheekwood

ELIGIBILITY:

  • All visual artists 18 and older who work or live in the Nashville area are eligible to apply.
  • Submission will occur in two stages with deadlines for preliminary artwork and artist application by February 15, 2024, and selected artists deliver final artwork by March 15, 2024.
  • Artwork must require no maintenance throughout the duration of the event. Artwork must be secure, durable, and able to withstand temperature and weather fluctuations.
  • All designs must be original artwork.

PRO TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • Your artwork can be two-sided! There are locations in the garden that are excellent for both one-sided and two-sided displays.
  • Artwork can include different forms of media such as oil, acrylic, tempera, etc., and methods including painting, drawing, collage, photography, printmaking, and more.
  • Creative themes that depict Cheekwood, or celebrate nature are appreciated!

SELECTION PROCESS

Entries will be juried by a Cheekwood committee. Artwork will be selected based on artistic merit, event context, and suitability for public display. The Committee reserves the right to reject any applications that do not meet eligibility or entry requirements or are incomplete.

COMPENSATION

Selected artists will receive an honorarium of $200 once artwork is completed to offset costs associated with artwork production and travel. A W-9 must be provided to Cheekwood at the time of contracting. Selected artists will also receive a limited number of complimentary admission tickets to the event.

MARKETING AND PROMOTION

A contract of participation must be signed, acknowledging that completed artwork becomes property of Cheekwood upon delivery. Cheekwood Estate & Gardens reserves the right to reproduce and distribute artwork images through print and electronic media for promotion of this event. The artist retains the copyright of the artwork.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Artists may submit up to two (2) different entries for consideration; Each submission requires its own application and must include an artist statement as well as artwork description.
  • Artwork must be created and returned on the approximate 8.5” x 11” bunny template provided for download.
  • Selected artists must accurately reproduce preliminary artwork onto a 3’x2.5’ plywood bunny provided by Cheekwood.
  • Artwork must be family friendly. Any artwork including inappropriate language, depictions of violence, drug-related content, and other adult themes will not be considered.
  • Artists must be able to pick-up and drop-off artwork to Cheekwood during selected dates.

IMPORTANT DATES

Entry Deadline: Thursday, February 15, 2024

  • Complete applications must be submitted by Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 4:00 PM (CST). Please include your preliminary artwork created from the template provided and artist application. You are encouraged to submit in advance of this date. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Letter of Notification: Tuesday, February 20, 2024

  • Letters of acceptance or rejection will be emailed to all applicants on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Please ensure you submit a correct email with your application.

Supply Pick Up: February 20, 2024 – February 23, 2024

  • Selected artists will schedule a time to pick up a plywood bunny from Cheekwood between 10 AM – 4 PM. Plywood bunny dimensions are approximately 3’x2.5’. Pick up arrangements must be confirmed with Education staff.

Artwork Drop Off: Friday, March 15, 2024

  • Selected artists will drop off final artwork to Cheekwood by Friday, March 15 that 5:00 PM (CST). Drop-off arrangements must be confirmed with Education staff.

The Great Spring Art Hunt: Friday, March 29th and Saturday, March 30, 9 AM – 5 PM
