Anneriet Aerts is an enthusiastic Cheekwood member who joined in 2021. She has lived in the Nashville area for two years, and visited 56 state parks in Tennessee during her first year here! She enjoys traveling, hiking, and taking care of her two grandsons. She believes Cheekwood is important because it gives families the chance to reconnect in nature. Anneriet graciously agreed to answer some questions and tell her Cheekwood story.
What inspired you to become a Cheekwood member?
During my first visit, I thoroughly enjoyed the nature and garden areas of Cheekwood, and signed up to become a member that day!
I enjoy coming to Cheekwood so very much, especially when my other grandson from Florida comes to visit me, sometimes for weeks at a time and we go to Cheekwood at least once a week during that time.
Which gardens, areas, or plants do you most enjoy when visiting Cheekwood, and why?
Since I usually visit with my grandchildren, we spend most of our time in the Children's Garden. The kids never tire of the obstacle course and rope bridge, water features, and the playhouse. We have also been active participants in the reading and craft times that are hosted. The train area is another favorite spot with its extensive tracks and hidden coves to explore. The beautiful landscaping and seasonal flowers in all of these areas make it a pleasant experience for all.
Anneriet makes frequent use of her membership, coming to visit the gardens in all seasons. She shared some lovely experiences she’s had at Cheekwood throughout the year.
What is your favorite time of year at Cheekwood?
While I enjoy the variety and new features that come with each season, Cheekwood harvest and the pumpkin decorations are my favorite.
What is one of your favorite memories involving Cheekwood?
The holiday lights together with my family. I upgraded my membership so I was able to bring my whole family without having to pay a lot more. It was cold and because of that we enjoyed the hot chocolate in the cafe.
Cheekwood offers many programs and activities that our members really enjoy. What are some that you or your family have especially enjoyed, and why?
We enjoy Cheekwood in Bloom every spring (especially the tulips since we are from the Netherlands), the orchid display in the mansion, and children's story time and crafts.
Cheekwood staff are always happy to see Anneriet on the property. A member of Cheekwood’s Guest Services team noticed that Anneriet extends her kindness towards others to enhance their experience at Cheekwood, and says that her compassion is not only noteworthy as a member, but also as a human being.
How would you encourage others to become Cheekwood members?
I frequently encourage other people to sign up for Cheekwood memberships. As you can see in the pictures, Cheekwood is to be enjoyed by young and old alike, in every season!
We’re lucky to have wonderful members like Anneriet that help to make Cheekwood the special place it is!
